Like vinyl and polaroid film, Canada's indie book scene has seen a resurgence in recent years. I find the nostalgia of a neighbourhood bookshop charming; a comforting reprieve from the daily grind.

Booksellers offer custom recommendations, curated reading lists, and face-to-face interactions, which adds a humanity to the book-buying experience that the impersonal nature of purchasing online prohibits.

There’s something tangible about holding a book in your hands, thumbing the pages, and the satisfying snap of the spine when you’re done that you don’t get with an e-reader.

Independent Bookstore Day is an annual, national celebration that takes place every last Saturday in April. Indie bookshops across the country invite everyone to experience the joy of reading with guest authors, live music, crafts, contests, games, exclusive giveaways, and more. Each bookstore has their own line-up of local talent and activities.
